Portimao sits on the same stretch of Algarve coast the professionals use for pre-season, and the reasons are the same for a youth squad — pitches that hold up well even into November, and weather that rarely lets a tournament down. It's quieter than some of our other destinations, which suits this age group: less going on to distract from the football, more time actually on it.

Four days, hotel and pitches close enough together that you're not losing time to transfers. For a U14 squad this tends to be a good step up in competitive standard, and usually a noticeable one in how the players carry themselves by the time they fly home — a bit more independence, a bit more composure on the ball.
